Everywhere you look, people these days are stressed out. Many reach a breaking point and sink into depression, anxiety – mental health issues few of our grandparents or great-grandparents experienced, yet it's all so common today. I think many experienced depression and anxiety but didn’t talk about it as much as people talk about these mental stressors today. I hear people say “It’s worst at night, when I try to sleep. The pressure won’t cease. The strain is unremitting. I can shut my computer off at night, but I can’t seem to disengage my brain” This means that many are having no rest and no deep sleep, resulting in fatigue, stress and elevated levels of depression, anxiety and medical problems. In this show I talk about causes of stress as well as coping and managing tasks and skills one can use. Research indicates major concerns and reason why we need to talk OUT LOUD about stress and how to manage it. Harris Interactive conducted an online survey of adults and young people ages 8 to 17 in August. Key findings include: Stress is up. Most Americans are suffering from moderate to high stress, with 44 percent reporting that their stress levels have increased over the past five years. If you or a loved one are experiencing stress, contact your physician for a physical, contact a mental health counselor near you or your EAP Employee Assistance Program for treatment information.
